WebCT User Name Guidelines

In order to improve security and better manage access to online courses at UMDNJ, the creation of WebCT User Names is managed exclusively by the WebCT Administrator.

Employees (Faculty/Staff/Administrators)

These guidelines are for all official UMDNJ Employees as well as individuals who have an @umdnj.edu email address or an account with Academic Systems and Technology at UMDNJ. Other employees go here.

Individual Employee

UMDNJ employees will use a WebCT ID that matches their Reserved User ID. This ID is also used for the my.UMDNJ portal and is the same as the beginning of your an @umdnj.edu email address if you have one.

Examples:

UMDNJ email = newmanae@umdnj.edu
my.UMDNJ login name = newmanae
Reserved User ID = newmanae
WebCT ID = newmanae

WebCT ID's for new employees are automatically created within a few days of your employment being activated in the Banner system. Activation usually occurs within a few days after your paperwork is submitted to Human Resources. Check here to see if your WebCT has been created.

Phase-out of old WebCT ID's
If you have a WebCT ID that does not match your Reserved User ID (especially WebCT ID's that begin with 99), do not use it for any new courses. Use the one that matches the Reserved User ID. Old non-matching WebCT ID's eventually will be deleted. Prior notification will be given before any WebCT ID's associated with a course are deleted.

Reaccess a RITE or Corporate Compliance Training to print a certificate: submit request

If you do not have a WebCT User Name, employees should request one using this form. You will need a WebCT User Name to register for any Compliance or RITE training.

For Your Staff or Faculty

You may ask your UMNDJ staff to follow the instructions above for Indiviual Employees or supervisors may use this form to request WebCT User Names for two or more Affiliate Employees or for UMDNJ Employees if ID's are needed prior to their automatic creation. (save the Excel spreadsheet file to your computer).

UMDNJ Affiliate Employees and Volunteers

For employees who do not have a record in UMDNJ's Banner system, an alternate WebCT ID is assigned when an official request is received from a supervisor or other UMDNJ official. Try using one of the following for your WebCT ID, all lowercase with no spaces, apostrophes or hyphens:

99+last name (up to first 6 letters)+first 2 letters of first name
or
99+whole last name+first 2 letters of first name

Example: Albert Einstein would most likely be: 99einsteal, but possibly 99einsteinal.

WebCT Course Faculty

WebCT IDs for your students
Students registered in any UMDNJ courses through the UMDNJ registrar will use a WebCT ID that matches their Reserved User ID assigned by IST. If the student has an @umdnj.edu email address, the beginning of the email address is the same the Reserved User ID and the WebCT ID.

Example:

Reserved User ID: newmanae
my.UMDNJ Login name: newmanae
WebCT ID: newmanae
UMDNJ email: newmanae@umdnj.edu

Students and Fellows

These guidelines are for students registered in UMDNJ academic programs courses through the UMDNJ registrar. Student registered at other schools go here

Students registered at UMDNJ are assigned a WebCT ID that matches the new Reserved User ID assigned by IST. If you have an @umdnj.edu email address, the beginning of your assigned email address is the same as your Reserved User ID and your WebCT ID.

Example:

Reserved User ID: newmanae
WebCT ID: newmanae

WebCT ID's for students at UMDNJ are created 1-2 days after the school registrar updates the student's record in Banner to indicate that the student accepted admission. For more infomation contact your school registrar

Phase-out of old WebCT ID's
If you have a WebCT ID from a previous semester that does not match your Reserved User ID, use the one that matches the Reserved User ID for all new courses or training unless you have been told to continue using the old one. Please do not use the non-matching ID for courses that permit self-registration. The non-matching WebCT ID's will eventually be deleted when they will not effect your access to a course.

Students registered through other schools
You will be notified of your user name and initial password by your instructor, department or program.
