Requirements for Online Courses in WebCT


Minimum Hardware/Software Requirements

  1. Access to the WebCT server
  2. Internet e-mail address
  3. Validated browsers
  4. Recommended Hardware
  5. Recommended Software
  6. Special Software Downloads (Plug-ins, etc)

Other Requirements for Success


1. Access to the WebCT Server

You must be able to access our WebCT server on the internet either from school, library or place of employment or from home through an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) Examples of ISP's include: comcast, prodigy, erols, concentric, optonline.

2. Internet e-mail address

From your ISP, or UMDNJ, or one of the free options at yahoo, netscape, hotmail, etc.


3. Validated browsers and settings

Each version of WebCT has specific browser requirements. UMDNJ's WebCT Version is
WebCT C
ampus Edition 4.1

4. Recommended Hardware:

1. Pentium PC (or PowerMac) 
2. SVGA capable monitor, display resolution 800x600 

3. Speakers (or headphones) 

4. 56K modem, DSL or Cable connection

5. black and white or color printer 


5. RECOMMENDED Software:

Your instructor may require you to prepare files using a particular software program so you can share the files with others and that you will be able to open other people's files. Common programs include:

Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft PowerPoint

Some courses may require use of plug-in's, web players, or external viewer's.
