Homicides


During the period from 1979-1998, homicide rates peaked in 1981. Since 1995, there has been a steady decline in the overall homicide rate.

Men and African-American men in particular, were disproportionately more likely to be both victims and perpetrators of homicide.

Firearms were the single most commonly employed mechanism used in the commission of homicide.
