you are planning on traveling outside of the United States and wish
to re-enter the country under the J-1 status, please follow the
instructions below:
See a Responsible
or Alternate Responsible Officer (RO/ARO) in the Office of International
Services (OIS) before traveling in order to insure that all your
documents are in order
You must
have a valid form DS-2019 with a travel endorsement from an OIS
RO/ARO. The travel endorsement is valid for one year as long as
your DS-2019 is valid and all of the information on it is current,
and you have otherwise maintained the conditions of your status.
You must
have a valid J-1 visa in your passport
You must
have a valid passport
Traveling
With An Expired Visa
If you are planning on traveling
outside the U.S. and your J-1 visa has expired, you
are required to make an appointment with the U.S.
Consulate/Embassy in the country you will be visiting.
For a listing of "Visa Wait Times", visit
the Department
of State Web site. You will need the following
documents during your visa appointment:
A
valid form DS-2019 with a travel endorsement from an OIS RO/ARO
A
passport that will be valid for at least six months after the
date on which you plan to return to the United States
One photograph
1 and 1/2 inches square, showing full face, without head covering,
against a light background
A letter
from your supervisor or the Department of Human Resources verifying
your employment at UMDNJ. If funding for your research is not
being provided by UMDNJ, you must provide a letter from the sponsoring
organization/institution stating the amount and the length of
time for which the funds will be available
Evidence
of funding for dependent spouse and children, if applicable
Dependents'
information (if applicable) such as; passport, DS-2019, proof
of marriage to a spouse and child's birth certificate
