Assistant Chancellor, Rutgers Newark
Diane Hill received her BA in Education from Caldwell College and her MA in Education from Jersey City State College. Her doctoral research focuses on the transformation of urban universities and communities through community engagement.
As Assistant Chancellor at Rutgers Newark Diane is responsible for promoting partnerships between the campus and the surrounding community through transformative and sustaining relationships. This includes developing partnerships and designing academic enrichment programs for youth. She created the Tutorial Partnership Program with the Newark Public Schools, a youth entrepreneurship program with the NJ Small Business Center and a local church and numerous community outreach initiatives to support RU-Newark faculty and student community engagement.
Most recently, Diane designed a model for an in-school high school youth workforce development project “R U READY FOR WORK” and secured grants from the MCJ /Amelior Foundation, The City of Newark, Victoria and Prudential Foundations to design and implement this new initiative for which will serve as a model for the city and state. She also worked to secure funding to incubate the Newark Mentoring Coalition, a newly created nonprofit, which represents over forty service providers.
Diane has worked for more than thirty years in various leadership positions involving the educational development, growth, and promotion of young people who reflect a vast array of multi-ethnic, culturally diverse and socio-economic backgrounds. Twenty-one years have been devoted to Rutgers University. She is recognized as a dedicated leader, having received numerous awards and recognitions, including being named one of the “100 most influential persons in NJ” by the City News. She is a founding board member of the Marion P. Thomas Charter School and served as a member of St. James Preparatory School, both in Newark, NJ. Currently she serves on the Newark Preschool Council Board, WBGO Public Broadcast Radio Station Board, Newark Women’s Conference Inc. Board of Directors, and is a member of the N.J Legislative Black Caucus Foundation. She is also the President of Positive Choices Enterprises (PCE), an educational consulting firm.
