Fathia Elmenghawi obtained her bachelor degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from Al-Fateh University in Tripoli, Libya. She practiced architecture in the National Consulting Bureau (NCB) and in other private architectural and engineering bureaus (Rawad Bureau for Engineering Works & Alsoroh Bureau for Engineering Consulting) where she participated in many important national and local projects in her country, Libya. Mrs Elmenghawi was also a member of the Technical Consulting Committee of the Urban Planning Agency, Tripoli. She reviewed and evaluated housing projects in Tripoli, Bengazi, and Tajura and assisted with discussions of high rise buildings and office towers on the Tripoli sea front. After receiving her M.Phil degree in 2004 from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, Mrs. Elmenghawi worked as a lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Al-Fateh University. She has been awarded a scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education, Libya, in order to pursue the PhD degree in the United States. Her fields of interest are the design and use of space in traditional Muslim buildings as and gender and the use of public space.
