Press Release
Sharese Porter is the recipient of the Spring 2012 Graduate Student Excellence Award sponsored by the Rutgers University Graduate Student Government Association. The award recognizes and honors graduate students who have excelled in their programs of study. Sharese has demonstrated excellence in academics, research, and service to the Urban Systems Program. She has also been actively involved in community service initiatives in Newark and underserved communities throughout New Jersey. The award will be presented to Sharese during the Graduate School Convocation Reception on May 17, 2012.

Temple University’s Department of Geography and Urban Studies (GUS) invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor beginning in academic year 2012-13. A Ph.D. in Geography or a related field is required by the start of employment. We are looking for individuals who will excel at conducting research and providing graduate and undergraduate instruction in an interdisciplinary department. GUS (http://www.temple.edu/gus) offers two interdisciplinary undergraduate majors in Geography and Urban Studies and Environmental Studies with nearly 250 majors. GUS also offers two graduate programs - an M.A. in Geography and Urban Studies and a Ph.D. in Urban Studies - consisting of 30 students.
The successful candidate will have a strong focus on cartography and geovisualization techniques, theory and applications that intersect with research foci in the department, with a strong preference towards individuals who can contribute to urban, health related or environmental research themes. The successful applicant will also demonstrate a strong potential for funded research.
