Linda S. Podhurst

Linda S. PodhurstLinda S. Podhurst is the Executive Director of the François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center, School of Nursing, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Podhurst directs the global, national and local education, technical assistance, research and clinical treatment services of the Center. She received her B.A. in sociology from Montclair State University and her M.A. and PhD in Medical Sociology from Rutgers University, New Brunswick New Jersey. She is co-author of Health, Illness and the Social Body, A Critical Sociology (4th edition, 2003), a leading text in Medical Sociology courses across the U.S., and author of several articles in HIV/AIDS technical assistance and capacity development. Prior to her role as an HIV/AIDS program director, Dr. Podhurst taught Medical Sociology and Race and Ethnic Relations, among other courses, for more than 10 years and has qualitative research experience in medical sociology and education. She serves on the Institutional Review Board of the North Jersey Community Research Initiative, which offers community-based HIV/AIDS clinical trials and is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Women & AIDS Network, a grassroots organization dedicated to reducing the spread of HIV infection in women.
