Paula Gordon
Paula Gordon is a fourth year doctoral student in the Educational Policy track of the Urban Systems program. Paula has taught as an Adjunct faculty at Mercy College in New York and also at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. She has supervised student teachers in the Urban Education Department at Rutgers and has served as a Research Assistant with the Institute on Educational Law and Policy. Additionally, Paula has presented at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and also the American Educational Studies Association (AESA) conferences. Her research interest includes Effective Urban Schools, the Academic Achievement Gap, Educational Leadership and Educational Policy.
Prior to entering the doctoral program Paula taught for over ten years in Newark and in the Elizabeth school districts. She has taught in both the public sector and charter school sectors and is an alumni of the Teach for America National Corp. At North Star Academy Charter School in Newark, Paula served in a leadership capacity as the Dean of Students and mentored faculty members in their professional development. Paula was awarded the 1997 New Jersey Governor's Teacher Recognition for Outstanding Educational Contributions.
Paula holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Wesleyan University and a Masters in Social Work from Howard University. Paula enjoys traveling, reading and relaxing at the beach.
