Registering for Classes
To register for courses you must do the following:
- BEFORE you can register, you MUST must be cleared by your advisor, who will release the HOLD on your registration. Make an apppointment to meet with her or him TODAY!
- To register for Urban System courses at:
- NJIT & UMDNJ: you must register online at the NJIT Registrar's webpage
- Rutgers-Newark: you must go IN PERSON to the Rutgers-Newark Registrar's Office [Blumenthal Hall Mall, 249 University Avenue, Newark, NJ 07102; Ph: (973).353.5324; Fax: (973).353.1357]
Regular registration
Once accepted into the program, students are issued an NJIT ID number, typically starting with "00". This ID number will allow you to create a new UCID by going o the website https://mailsys.njit.edu/~accts/cgi-bin/new. For students who do not have this number can obtain this number from the Computer Help Desk located in the Student Mall, below the Parking Deck.
Once you have this UCID, you can go to the Campus Pipeline at http://www.njit.edu/cp/login.php . Once logged in, click on Student Services tag. Click on Web for students Student Services link on the left upper page. Click on Courses tag and then Course Section Search. This is also the place where you can add or drop courses.
Cross Registration for Rutgers courses
For Cross Registration, students need to go in-person to the Registrar's Office located in the Student Mall, below the Parking Deck at the cross street between MLK Jr. Road and Warren Street. Students are required to fill out a form containing their information and the courses required to be cross registered. The Bursar Office staff will do the cross registration.
Student IDs
NJIT ID can be obtained from the office located across the Registrar's Office towards Warren Street. It takes about 10 minutes for the ID card to be made. Parking decals are issued from this office. For Rutgers, the Help Desk is located on the 1st Floor of Hill Hall on MLK Jr. Road, located right across the NJIT School of Architecture.
UMDNJ ID and parking permit can be obtained from the Parking and ID Office, Building 5, Room 531, across the School of Nursing on Bergen Street. Contact the office prior to going there (telephone 973- 972-5489). Newly admitted students are required to obtain proof of student status from the Coordinator of Urban Health.
Access to Rutgers library
Students who are registered in Rutgers courses can get a library swipe strip. Students who need access to the Rutgers library for research who are not enrolled in any course at Rutgers in a particular semester should cross-register for the zero credit course set up as a work around: Course number 26:485:799, Index number 29547 (titled Cross Registration).
Access to UMDNJ library
Students must present their UMDNJ Student ID at the UMDNJ Smith Library to obtain access. The Library is located adjacent to the Medical School on 12th Avenue. (See campus map)
