A look at a few noteworthy publications by UMDNJ faculty and alumni

Advancing Health Literacy:
A Framework for Understanding and Action

The crisis in health literacy in the United States and around the world is addressed, and the critical role of literacy in public health is also examined. The issues are outlined by using a practical and effective model that bridges the gap between health education, health promotion and health communication.

Dr. Christina Zarcadoolas is on the faculty at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Andrew F. Pleasant is on the faculty of Rutgers University-Cook College, and an assistant professor at UMDNJ-School of Public Health. He has served as a temporary advisor to the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. David S. Greer is dean of medicine emeritus at Brown University.

Musculoskeletal Physical Examination:
An Evidenced-based Approach

All types of musculoskeletal physical examination are covered in depth, utilizing more than 200 clearly defined illustrations. The text includes a free CD-ROM.
Dr. Malanga is an associate professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, where Dr. Nadler was also a professor. Other NJMS contributors include Dr. Thomas Agesen, Dr. Jay E. Bowen, and Dr. Jeffrey Miller.

Essential Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Humana Press
A resource book for medical students and junior residents that provides data and information needed at the beginning of a physical medicine and rehabilitation rotation. It can also serve as a review aid for board exams.

Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

Author and editor Grant Cooper, MD, is a 2003 graduate of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He did his residency in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian Hospital, University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell. During this period Dr. Cooper published the following texts:
