Julie O'Sullivan Maillet, PhD, RD, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research at UMDNJ's School of Health Related Professions, was elected president of the American Dietetic Association in May.

With about 70,000 members, the Association is the largest group of food and nutrition professionals in the country. Its mission includes: establishing quality standards for professional practice; lobbying for federal legislation contributing to nutritional well-being; and providing nutrition information to consumers.

Its Commission on Accreditation/ Approval for Dietetics Education is the accrediting agency for all education programs that prepare dietetics professionals; and its Foundation funds research projects and education awards and scholarships.

Maillet will take office in June 2002.
