Kathryn Lambert, DO, shares a moment with wrestler Mike Barikian and basketball player Kim Moro at Sterling High School in Somerdale, where she is school physician.

athryn Lambert, DO, wasn't out to prove a point. She wasn't trying to be one of a kind, either. Plain and simple, she loves sports. So providing sideline medical coverage at high school games is a natural for her.

It's not the norm, however. Lambert is the first and only female physician in southern New Jersey -- and one of only a few in the state -- doing sideline medicine. And to top it off, she stands only five-feet tall, or as she likes to tell it, "five-feet two, in two-inch heels," and looks much younger than her 38 years.

"In the beginning, I got a few wide-eyed looks from some of the students and parents," she says. "But we've built a mutual respect, and now everything is fine." So Lambert graciously stands at the ready to assess shoulders, knees, heads or any other part of the anatomy that may get injured during a game.
