The Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children was the topic of a day-long, international symposium held March 6 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The International Health Awareness Network (IHAN) presented the event, with co-sponsorship from UMDNJ, among others. The day was divided into two sessions: The morning program, held at the UNICEF House, focused on the clinical, ethical and legal issues surrounding female genital surgeries. The afternoon session was held at the UN and was dedicated to the elimination of violence against women and children around the world. UMDNJ President Stanley S. Bergen, Jr., MD, opened that session.
