For Healthier Children Nothing is more devastating to families than a sick child - and too many children suffer from autism, cancers, heart defects, cystic fibrosis, juvenile diabetes, muscular dystrophy, neonatal AIDS, sickle cell disease, and other disorders. To develop effective strategies for treating and curing childhood disorders, a new research facility -
The Child Health Institute of New Jersey - is being established at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Plans for the Institute include some 40 state-of-the-art laboratories and support facilities
for 14 senior researchers.
The Institute will be separate from, but connected to, the new Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Construction began on the hospital in June 1998, and is expected to be completed within two years.
