Master Educators for
2003
A top-quality education
depends on excellent teachers. The Master Educators' Guild was established
by University President Stuart D. Cook, MD, in 2000 to recognize exceptional
faculty at UMDNJ. The Guild has grown each year as new members are added.
Master Educators
are chosen by their deans from nominations by their peers, students, other
faculty, administrators, and department chairs. A University-wide committee
headed by David Gibson, EdD, dean of the UMDNJ-School of Health Related
Professions, reviews and approves all applications. Those selected have
demonstrated their gifts for teaching in the classroom, the laboratory,
hospital or clinic setting, and all have served as mentors for UMDNJ students.
The goal of the Guild
is to facilitate and support the improvement of educational effectiveness
and innovation. Their Web site, the Online Center for Excellence in Health
Sciences Education and Teaching (www.umdnj.edu/megweb), includes links
designed to support and enhance health sciences education.
Since its inception,
the University has inducted 37 faculty members into the Guild. This July,
11 new members were added and they were introduced to the UMDNJ community
at University Day in the fall. Here, meet the Master Educators "class
of 2003."
