Dr. Elaine M. Keohane, chair of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences at UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions, has been co-teaching courses in hematology to medical technology students at Korea University, College of Health Sciences, Seoul, with host professor Dr. Kyung Jin Cho since March 2008. The online educational software used by Korea University allows for live, real-time class interaction between Dr. Keohane in New Jersey and the students in Seoul. The class is held once a week from 9 a.m. to noon in Seoul (8 p.m. to 11 p.m. the previous day in New Jersey).

UMDNJ Researchers' Findings Published in Prestigious Journal  

The effectiveness of nitroglycerin is often diminished when it is used as a medication for chest pain and heart disease for prolonged periods. A critical finding that was revealed by UMDNJ scientists may hold the answer to more effective treatments. Research outcomes were published recently in the prestigious international cardiovascular journal Circulation Research.

Dr. Annie Beuve, associate professor, Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, and Dr. Walter Duran, professor, Department of Pharmacology and Physiology and Department of Surgery, both of UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, were collaborators on this study. Read more.


 

NJDS Program Cited as Model of HIV-Specific Dental Care  

The Statewide Network for Community Oral Health at UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School was cited as a model of success in providing HIV-specific dental care by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.

Dr. Jill York is director of the network, which was highlighted in the 2008 Ryan White HIV/AIDS Progress Report. The program was selected for national acclaim from among thousands of Ryan White grantees across the country. Read more.

 

Professor Recognized by International Society of Exposure Science  

Dr. Paul J. Lioy, professor and vice chair, Department of Environmental and Occupational Medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, has been recognized as a distinguished lecturer in exposure science by the International Society of Exposure Science.

Lioy is an internationally recognized expert in environmental and occupational health. As a distinguished lecturer, he will travel throughout the world for a two-year period to stimulate interest and recognition of exposure science in academia, industry, and government and attract students to academic programs.
