The School of Nursing captured a 2008 Pyramid Award in the special publications category for overall excellence of its anniversary report, “Celebrating 15 Years of Progress.” The award is given by the New Jersey Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. The awards program honors the state’s best work and top practitioners in the field.

 


Free Oral Cancer Screening Offered at the State House  

New Jersey Dental School teamed up with the New Jersey Dental Association, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, and the New Jersey Oral Cancer Work Group for the first Oral Health Screening Day at the State House in Trenton on June 12. A total of 90 people took advantage of the free screenings, from security officers and administrative assistants, to lobbyists and state senators, to visitors who were in Trenton for the day.

Graduate Nursing Programs Supported by $2.7 Million in Federal Grants  

The UMDNJ-School of Nursing established two new graduate programs with funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. A third program, providing nurse practitioner education in adult and gerontological health, received funding to support its continued growth. The grants total nearly $2.7 million in aid over a three-year period beginning July 1.

The new academic programs, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program in Advanced Community Health Nursing Leadership and an MSN in Nursing Education, will begin in September. The third, a dual-track Adult Health/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner MSN program, is offered in collaboration with leading academic and clinical affiliates including the Institute for Successful Aging at the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine.

 

 

Broadway House Recognized for Health Work Enviornment  

In recognition of its efforts to create a positive work environment that fosters employee health and well being, the Broadway House for Continuing Care received the 2008 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award by the New Jersey Psychological Association.

Broadway House is New Jersey’s only special care facility for people living with HIV/AIDS.
