Faculty members and students at the University will be the recipients of nearly $4.5 million (grants plus matches) in additional awards and scholarships this year to reward excellence at the University. Through its annual Program Committee Awards, the Foundation of UMDNJ and its parent company, New Jersey Health Foundation, have established three new programs for researchers and doctoral students. The first provides some students accepted into doctoral programs, who have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate courses and research, a stipend to support research activities. The second award will recognize faculty members for outstanding research during the academic year. The third will provide grants to bridge the gap for researchers waiting for federal or other funding.

UMDNJ-School of Public Health and UMDNJ-Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences have announced a new program on the Newark campus that allows individuals an opportunity to earn a dual masters degree in less time than it would take to earn each degree separately. Under this program, students can earn a Master of Biomedical Science (MS) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Quantitative Methods. The dual degree provides a strong foundation in basic medical sciences and in public health for students who wish to later pursue a medical or dental degree or a doctorate in public health.
