Dr. Suzanne Atkin
Director UH CTC

Dr. Atkin is a graduate of Cornell University, where she received her BA degree and New Jersey Medical School, where she received her MD degree and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine. She then became an attending physician in the Department of Medicine, practicing internal medicine and emergency medicine, and teaching medical students and residents here at UH. In addition to her administrative and clinical skills, she has received several teaching awards and has recently been selected to be the Course Director for the medical student course, Introduction to the Clinical Sciences. She serves as the Director of the Community Training Center and oversees the operational and medical aspects of all courses offered at the center.

Dr. Christine Gerula
Medical Director for ACLS

Dr. Gerula graduated from the UMDNJ Medical School in 1996 and is the Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. Dr. Gerula completed her residency and fellowship at NJMS and is board certified in Cardiology and internal medicine. She joined the CTC recently as the ACLS Medical Director and brings many years of experience to her role. She will be actively involved in providing her expertise in the Advanced Cardiac Care courses for the CTC.

Beverly Eskra
Training Center Coordinator

Beverly has a BSN from Jersey City State College and a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from New Jersey City University and belongs to Sigma Theta Tau, International Honarary Society of Nursing.  As the Training Center Coordinator she oversees the operation and management of the BLS/ACLS/ & PALS programs and the administration of the CTC offices.  Along with being Training Center Faculty for BLS/ACLS/ & PALS faculty, Beverly also serves as BLS Regional Faculty for the American Heart Association.  She has over 25 years experience in Emergency Nursing and Clinical Education.

Joseph S. Dyl
ACLS & PALS Coordinator

Joe has a Bachelor of Science degree from George Williams College and is an Adjunct Instructor for Essex County College. Joe has been employed at The University Hospital for 18 years begining his career in Emergency Medical Services and currently serves as the ACLS and PALS Coordinator for the Community Training Center. As ACLS and PALS coordinator, Joe oversees the administrative and logistical aspects of both programs.

 

Gary Powell
Secretary, CTC

As the CTC secretary, Gary is responsible for scheduling all CPR/ACLS & PALS classes for the Community Training Center, answering the phones and distributing course provider cards to students. Along with this responsibility he is also actively involved in diiseminating information regarding courses and activities in regard to all training at the CTC. Gary has been with UMDNJ/UH since 1986 and has worked with the Department of Phamacology and Physiology in the Medical School before joining the CTC.
