7/7 -- Greater Liberty Temple/United Neighbors Development Corp. Health Fair
Although the temperatures reached the high 90s, that did not stop Julio Colon and Jesus Mabute, both of Orthopaedics, from doing blood pressure and diabetes screenings. Great work, gentlemen!

7/13 -- Health Information Day at Pathmark
This month's information day at Pathmark featured Kenneth Page of the Screening Access of Value to Essex (SAVE) Program and Din Garcia of the Initiative for the Elimination of Health Disparities. Both were on hand to distribute information about prostate cancer.

7/14 -- University Center for Family Medicine/Network of Christian Men, Inc. "Healthy Men and Women" Health Fair
University Center for Family Medicine, the community-based health center sponsored by the New Jersey Medical School Department of Family Medicine and The University Hospital, hosted a free health fair on July 14, 2007. The Center worked with the Network of Christian Men, a collaboration of several local Christian churches; the men's ministry of St. James AME Church; and the Hyacinth AIDS Foundation to host the event.

The health fair featured screenings and information on a variety of health issues including hypertension, diabetes, Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS, smoking cessation, cancer, nutrition and oral health. Children who attended even had a special visitor--Batman!

7/15 -- Fathers, Sons, Men and Boys Associates and the New Jersey Muslim Business Association New Africa 10th Annual Family Festival
Sunday afternoon is a great time to spend time with the family. That is why family was the focus at the Fathers, Sons, Men and Boys/New Jersey Muslim Business Association New Africa 10th Annual Family Festival. The event featured free activities and refreshments for all!

The University Hospital Community Outreach Committee was on hand and provided health screenings. During the screenings, Yvonne Hogans (Nursing) did the glucose screenings; Patricia Bing-Grant and Haroon Shahid (NJMS students) and Jokebed Amay and Larry Montalvo (undergraduate students at Rutgers University) handled the blood pressure screenings; Marcelo Taborga (a NJMS student) registered bone marrow donors; and Evelyn Granger (SAVE Men Program) and Carl Chase (Urban and Community Development) distributed information about prostate cancer.

7/19 -- Free Prostate Cancer Screenings at The University Hospital
In an effort to continuously promote prostate cancer education and screenings, the New Jersey Medical School Screening Access of Value to Essex (SAVE) Men Program, The University Hospital, and the UMDNJ Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities hosted a free prostate cancer screening.

A total of 21 men were screened, and the following staff members helped make the event a success: Takia Small and Tina Jalloh (Pathology); Kevin Gioia (NJMS), Dr. Georgi Guruli, Dr. Mark Jordan, Gwendolyn McKnight, RN and Rosemarie Puig (Urology); Evelyn Granger and Kenneth Page (SAVE Men Program), Tracey Richardson, Joanne Fagan and Kafilat Jimba (Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities); and Alexandra Ocampo and Qamar Carr (Admitting).

7/28 -- Beulah Baptist Church Health Fair
This health fair featured health screenings and a blood drive. Several members of the Community Outreach Committee were on hand and helped make the day successful. Those members were: Ilsa Curtis and Rebecca Townes-Mays of UMDCAre; Pat Hardy of the FXB Center; Evelyn Granger and Kenneth Paige of the SAVE Program; Din Garcia of the Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities; Heather Jordan of the Tobacco Clinic-Newark; and Terry Jonas of Food and Nutrition.
