11/2
-- "Walk as One" Walk-a-thon
The weather on this
day was made for walking! Temperatures were mild and in the mid-60s,
making the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ)
4th Annual Walk as One walk-a-thon a success.
NCCJ is an organization that supports diversity, and fights bigotry,
prejudice and racism through programming for organizations and youth.
Funds from the walk will support NCCJ's Youth Leadership Institute.
Sincerest thanks to all walkers!
11/14 -- Diabetes Awareness
Day at Pathmark
Pathmark shoppers received expert diabetes advice while they were
shopping, thanks to staff from the New Jersey Family Practice Center.
Not only did staff members Sharon Pleasant, RN and Rosa Garcia,
Medical Assistant, provide diabetes screenings, they also offered
the hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test.
This test is given to diabetics to determine if their blood sugar
levels are under control. Actually, it gives the best picture of
a diabetic's blood sugar control level over the previous three month
period. It should be given twice a year.
In addition to the NJ Family Practice Center staff, Sarah Suarez,
RN, a Certified Diabetes Educator from UH, also provided diabetes
counseling.
