-- 5th Annual Senior Blues Concert/Health Fair featuring Bobby Blue
Bland
Seniors, and even
the not-so-senior, enjoyed the down home blues sounds of Bobby Blue
Bland thanks to Mayor Sharpe James, the Newark Municipal Council,
Grace Reformed Baptist Church and Grace West Early Childhood Youth
and Development Center.
In addition, guests were also
pleased with the free health fair at this event. Our star performers
were Mittie Simmons and Wesley Tahsir-Rodriguez from the Institute
for the Elimination of Health Disparities, Tarangela Lee from WIC,
and Illsa Curtis from UMDCare.

-- Unified Vailsburg Services Organization Community Resource Fair
Unified Vailsburg
Services Organization is one of the oldest community-based organizations
in Newark's West Ward. They are also the most active, which made
dozens of people attend their free Community Resource Fair. UH was
well represented by Doreen Monks, APN, Stroke Service and representatives
from the Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities.

John's Baptist Church Annual Community Bazaar
Although the attendance at this event was low, our staffers Illsa
Curtis (UMDCare), Sharon Washington (Asthma and Allergy Resource
Center) and Josefina Mercedes (DAYAM) made sure that those who attended
received important health information on diabetes, asthma and HIV/AIDS.

Series
Guests at this lecture learned the latest about OB/GYN issues at
this lecture. Winsome Parthment, MD, University OB/GYN Associates,
served as guest speaker.

"There were hundreds
of people there," exclaimed Yvonne Brown of OB/GYN Associates!
Ms. Brown, along with Sharon Kibwana and Wesley Tahsir-Rodriguez
from the Institute for the Elimination of Health Disparities, attended
this event, which featured free back to school supplies and more!

Bradley Court Annual Community Awareness Day
The weather may have
been somewhat gloomy, but more than 100 people still attended JP
Bradley Court's Annual Community Awareness Day. And for good reason:
the event featured free health screenings, food and activities for
children.
Yvonne Brown of OB/GYN Associates, as well as Sharon Kibwana and
Wesley Tahsir-Rodriguez from the Institute for the Elimination of
Health Disparities, were our representatives at the event.
