William O'Brien, flight medic and Carl Corriere, flight nurse, work for NorthSTAR, University Hospital 's air medical helicopter. This state-of-the-art, “flying intensive care unit”, allows advanced care to be provided to trauma and critically ill patients while in transit to our Trauma Center . Recently, William and Carl volunteered to run the NorthSTAR public relations booth at the Emergency Nurses Association Conference. During this three-day event, these two men enlightened their customers on the importance of NorthSTAR and the trends of medical air transport, answered critical questions, and distributed information packets. Always hardworking, flexible and dedicated, this knowledgeable duo represented NorthSTAR and University Hospital with competence and the utmost professionalism.
Cathleen Noonan-Flores, Cardiac Cath Lab

Cathleen is an exceptional individual who is always willing to help others. Whenever there is a call for donations in the hospital, she is the first to respond. Cathleen has become famous for her skill in creating abundant and beautiful decorative baskets. Recently, she made a basket for the cancer survivor's picnic which not only won rave reviews, but also ended up in the arms of a patient who really needed the emotional support. The sister of the patient commended Cathleen for bringing joy and newly found hope to her recovering sister.
Shauwea L. Hamilton, Service Excellence, Marketing and Communications

When Shauwea was asked to supervise the Marketing and Media Relations Department, due to the resignation of their long-time director, she quickly and successfully rose to the occasion. Shauwea is effective in managing those who have more years experience than she in the areas of marketing and media relations. For all members of this department, she finds way to support, encourage and reward good work in a manner that is particularly valued by each staff member. Shauwea has contributed to high morale and group effectiveness and is very adept at implementing new ideas and projects to advance the goals of the department.

When Peggy was unexpectedly put in a leadership position in her department two years ago, she accepted the challenge with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Staff members often comment how “Peggy treats them like family.” When difficulties or stressful situations arise, Peggy remains diplomatic, thoughtful and creative. She turns problems into positive learning experience for everyone and never hesitates to work overtime when needed. Dedicated, cheerful, energetic and highly effective – that's our Peggy!

Jacqueline is a joy to work with! She is pleasant, gracious and greets everyone with a warm manner and friendly smile. In addition to her uplifting demeanor, Jacqueline is industrious and vigilant about keeping the Emergency Department clean and organized. Despite the often hectic pace of the ED, Jacqueline makes patient care her top priority.
Thomas Vellarayill, Environmental Services

Thomas always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Recently while working in the Emergency Department, he jumped in to help a resident who was being threatened by a very upset and angry patient. Thomas immediately diffused the situation with his quick actions and calming voice. Thanks to his willingness to help, no one was hurt. Thomas's manager, reports that Thomas “consistently demonstrates a commendable work performance and deserves high praise for his exceptional level of professionalism.” Thomas is a valuable member of the department and a tremendous asset to University Hospital .
Dara Skinner, Care Coordination
Dara noticed that one of her fellow co-workers was displaying the signs and symptoms of a possible stroke, yet was hesitant to seek medical attention. Dara convinced the employee that she should be evaluated and immediately called for help from the Stroke Team. Thanks to the quick thinking and caring actions of Dara, the employee received the medical treatment she needed and was prevented from suffering a severe stroke.
