How Aid is Awarded

Financial assistance is awarded on the basis of "need". Financial need is the difference between the cost of attending school and the student/family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses. The University expects that the student his/her parents and spouse will contribute to the fullest from income and assets in meeting educational expenses.

To determine what the family is expected to contribute‚ the University uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA.

What is Financial Aid?

Financial aid is any grant‚ scholarship‚ loan or paid employment offered for the express purpose of helping individuals meet educational expenses. Such aid is usually provided by or through Federal and State agencies‚ foundation‚ corporations and the University.

The amount and type of aid that an individual receives is determined through Federal‚ State and institutional guidelines.

How to Apply for Financial Aid

Candidates to any of the UMDNJ schools who accept an offer of admission will be sent information on how to apply for financial aid. It is important to maintain a current mailing address with the Office of Admission.

Continuing UMDNJ students should complete their application for financial aid prior to the May 1 priority date. (Unless instructed otherwise by their Financial Aid Office) Application packets can be found online by visiting our Homepage. Select Application Process.
