There are over 20 Internet connected computers and laptops in the library. Most computers in the Library require users to log-in using their CORE username and password. Kennedy Health System and public users please go to the circulation desk for assistance in accessing computers.
Installed software programs include computer-assisted instruction software, Microsoft Office applications, SPSS, and the full Adobe Acrobat suite. Educational programs required or recommended by faculty members are loaded on designated computers. Menu sheets posted next to these computers list the installed software.
It is not possible to change programs on the hard drives or load new software onto library computers. Personal files must be saved to writable CDs, or flash drives. CDs may be purchased at the Circulation Desk for $2.00. Unauthorized files and documents are deleted on a regular basis.
The Library strives to provide a virus-free computing environment. The Library staff is not responsible for damage to or loss of documents, programs CDs, or flash drives used in the Library.
All computers in the Library are connected to a printer. Printing cost is 10¢ per page.
There is a scanner in the Computer Lab with the capability to scan negatives and transparencies. A typewriter is also available.
Computers in the Computer Lab may only be used by the students, faculty and staff of UMDNJ and the Kennedy Health System. Users will be required to present valid UMDNJ or Kennedy identification upon request.
There is a Mobile Devices Resource web page that provides information on university resources for mobile devices. Mobile device resources available for use by our affiliated users include Essential Evidence Plus, DynaMed, and Md Consult Mobile.
The Health Sciences Library also has a web page designed to be viewed on mobile devices. This web page lists Library contact information, Library hours, and Library staff. This mobile device web page also links to several online resources that can be utilized on mobile devices.
A secure wireless network on campus enables faculty, staff, and students to take advantage of the convenience of wireless access. An account must be established with IST before the wireless network can be used with personal laptops. For more Information please see the Wireless Information web page.
The Library lends laptops with wireless cards to users with a UMDNJ or Kennedy ID Badge. Laptops may be borrowed for a two-hour period for use in the Library.
UMDNJ faculty, staff and students who have laptops with wireless capability may access the network once they have registered with IST.
A pay-for-print system enables users to print from any of the computers in the library. The system uses the same pre-valued card as the photocopy machine, also at a cost of 10¢ per page. No cash option is available for printing. All copying and printing is in black-and-white. There are no color printers available in the Library.
