| It
is my pleasure, as chairman of
the Department of Surgery, to
welcome you to the Surgery
Department's web site. Here you
will find information on all
aspects of the Department,
including our educational,
clinical and research programs as
well as the faculty and their
clinical practice sites and
office hours. |
| The Department
of Surgery is clinically
broad-based on and consists of 12
clinical divisions and has 46
full-time faculty, 12 part-time
faculty and 204 voluntary
clinical faculty. Medical student
and resident education and
fellowship training is a major
part of the Department of
Surgery's mission. Within the
Department there are four
nationally-approved residencies
(general surgery, neurosurgery,
otolaryngology, and urology) and
four fellowship programs (Cardiac
Surgery, Plastic Surgery,
Surgical Critical Care/Trauma,
and Vascular Surgery) of which we
are very proud. Each year we
graduate a total of 17 surgical
residents and fellows, some of
which go on for further training,
some of which go into private
practice, while others take
academic jobs at medical schools
and institutions throughout the
country. |

Department is committed to
excellence in patient care and to
the advancement of knowledge
through clinically-oriented and
basic science research. One
tangible result of the clinical
and research expertise within the
Department of Surgery has been
the establishment of a number of
centers of excellence, which we
hope you will visit. In closing, whether you
