The Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions seeks candidates who have both strong academic potential and commitment to working as professionals in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation. Employment experience in psychiatric rehabilitation services is required for admission to the Leadership Track of the M.S. in Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Individuals without experience in psychiatric rehabilitation may be considered if they are in similar fields or begin working in psychiatric rehabilitation shortly after starting the program. Students might also wish to consider applying for the M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling. More information about this option is available at the SHRP Graduate Program web page under the heading of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions at http://shrp.umdnj.edu/programs/graduate.htm and then selecting the degree option in which you are interested.
Admission decisions are based on a review of all material submitted in support of the application and take into account all aspects of the applicant including occupational background, personal experience with rehabilitation services, and career goals, as well as academic performance and potential. Applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds who are interested in working in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation counselors are encouraged. Scores on standardized tests such as the GRE or the MAT are NOT required for admission.

Requirements for admission include:
• Completed application form with application fee.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Written statement describing experiences and personal goals as related to the field of psychiatric rehabilitation.
• Two letters of recommendation.
• Personal interview by faculty.
In addition to the above materials, applicants whose baccalaureate degree is not from the United States must submit an official copy of a transcript evaluation. An evaluation may be arranged by contacting:

Applicants with a baccalaureate degree whose native language is not English are required to submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Information concerning TOEFL may be obtained at www.toefl.org/.

Students are requested to notify Dr. Carlos Pratt, Program Director, at (908) 889-2461 when they submit the application form and other application materials to the Office of Enrollment Services.
Students can begin study in any semester. Deadlines for application are April 15 for Summer, June 15 for Fall, and November 15 for Spring. Students may attend on a part-time or full-time basis. Completion of the degree requires attendance in the summer since certain courses are offered only in this semester. Students are encouraged to begin the program in the Fall or Spring semester. Please submit your application for admission to the program as early as possible so that there is adequate time for processing your application, arranging for a personal interview, and reaching an admissions decisions before the start of the semester when you would like to begin your studies.
