Bachelor of Arts in Biology (BA) Pre-Dental
Program
About the Program
The University of Medicine and Dentistry of
New Jersey, School of Health Related Professions
(UMDNJ-SHRP) and New Jersey Dental School (NJDS)
in collaboration with New Jersey City University
(NJCU) offer the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biology
degree program designed exclusively for practicing
dental health professions. The degree program
has been designed to meet the educational needs
of allied dental practitioners by providing
diverse, flexible, and creative opportunities
to earn a baccalaureate degree in preparation
for admission to the New Jersey Dental School.
Students will complete course work through both
traditional and non-traditional formats including
use of the Internet.
A student participating
in this program completes the equivalent of
three years at the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Health Related
Professions (UMDNJ-SHRP) and New Jersey City
University (NJCU) as a pre-dental major pursuing
a Bachelor of Arts in Biology degree.
Upon completion
of a minim of 100 credits and an acceptable
score on the Dental Admissions Test (DAT), the
student may apply for admission to UMDNJ-NJDS.
Qualified candidates for admission, shall have
met the following criteria: DA/DH with credentialling/licensure
and completion of 100 credits in the pre-dental
program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
Final acceptance into the NJDS is dependent
upon completion of the BA/Biology Pre-dental
Program, a satisfactory DAT score (17-18 in
science), and recommendation from an undergraduate
program at SHRP/NJCU. The NJDS reserves the
right to make independent acceptance decisions
or require additional evaluation or interviews.
If accepted, and upon completion of NJDS requirements,
the student is granted a Doctor of Dental Medicine
(D.M.D) degree from UMDNJ.
PROGRAM GOALS
The goals of this
program are to advance and broaden the skills
of dental health related professionals prepared
at the associate degree/certificate level. The
program offers advanced level interdisciplinary
course work and provides a pre-dental concentration.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The following criteria have been outlined
by NJDS as prerequisite to admission:

Elective credits must be sufficient to complete
a minimum of two (2) full years of study (to
include completion of Dental Assisting and/or
Dental Hygiene course work).
