Bachelor of Arts in Biology (BA) Pre-Dental Program

About the Program

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Health Related Professions (UMDNJ-SHRP) and New Jersey Dental School (NJDS) in collaboration with New Jersey City University (NJCU) offer the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biology degree program designed exclusively for practicing dental health professions. The degree program has been designed to meet the educational needs of allied dental practitioners by providing diverse, flexible, and creative opportunities to earn a baccalaureate degree in preparation for admission to the New Jersey Dental School. Students will complete course work through both traditional and non-traditional formats including use of the Internet.

A student participating in this program completes the equivalent of three years at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Health Related Professions (UMDNJ-SHRP) and New Jersey City University (NJCU) as a pre-dental major pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Biology degree.

Upon completion of a minim of 100 credits and an acceptable score on the Dental Admissions Test (DAT), the student may apply for admission to UMDNJ-NJDS. Qualified candidates for admission, shall have met the following criteria: DA/DH with credentialling/licensure and completion of 100 credits in the pre-dental program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Final acceptance into the NJDS is dependent upon completion of the BA/Biology Pre-dental Program, a satisfactory DAT score (17-18 in science), and recommendation from an undergraduate program at SHRP/NJCU. The NJDS reserves the right to make independent acceptance decisions or require additional evaluation or interviews. If accepted, and upon completion of NJDS requirements, the student is granted a Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D) degree from UMDNJ.
