VACCINATE AGAINST FLU

WE CARE ABOUT YOU

(Stratford Campus)

Students may go to Family Medicine at anytime to receive their flu vaccination. On Friday afternoons, Family Medicine will be open to issue flu shots to everyone. You must bring your UMDNJ ID to receive a flu shot.

(Newark Campus Employees) Update

Flu Vaccine is Here. The annual FREE Influenza Prevention Program for EMPLOYEES on the Newark Campus is underway. The NJMS Occupational Medicine Service is offering flu vaccinations to ALL faculty and staff. People in the following flu high risk groups should especially consider getting vaccinated:

Direct patient care providers.
Aged 50 years or older.
With long-term health problems.
Pregnant.
Household contacts and caregivers of children <5 years old or people 50+ years old or with long term health problems.

However, people who are allergic to EGGS, LATEX or Gentamicin, have had Guillain-Barré syndrome or are currently moderately or severely ill should NOT receive this vaccine.

On the Newark campus, free flu vaccinations are available for employees from the OMS in the following locations:

The Bergen Building, Suite GA-167, Occupational Medicine Service, Weekdays 7:30 am to 4 pm. The UH Cafeteria on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9 to 11 am.

Departments with at least 10 people who want flu vaccinations may arrange for the Flu Crew to come to their worksite locations by appointment. More sites are being arranged, including for the night shift, and more information will be distributed.

For more information, call Renee Graves, RN, or Molly Varghese, RN, at 2-2900.

Fire Watch - Stanley S. Bergen Bldg., Newark

(Click on the blue links for the revised procedures and training schedule.)

The Stanley S. Bergen building has been put on a "FIRE WATCH" until further notice. The fire watch has been activated while Physical Plant completes a series of upgrades to the Bergen Building fire alarm system.

PLEASE NOTE: The SSB Fire Emergency Evacuation Procedures have been revised. Until further notice, ALL OCCUPANTS (floors Basement through 15) will be required to evacuate during all fire alarms. A procedure for persons with disabilities has been established and is outlined in the attached factsheet.

During a fire watch, it is important that all occupants be vigilant about fire hazards. Anyone who suspects fire or smells smoke should report it immediately, from a safe location, to the Public Safety emergency telephone numbers, 2-4490 or 222. Do not try to activate the fire alarm pull stations where a sign has been posted indicating that they are not active.

FIRE SAFETY TRAINING:

To update occupants on the revised procedures, EOHSS has scheduled floor by floor fire safety training sessions for ALL OCCUPANTS of the Stanley S. Bergen Bldg. We will provide brief (15-20 min) training sessions in the elevator lobbies of each floor of the Bergen Building. The time and dates for the training sessions are listed in this link. The schedule will also be posted throughout the building.

ALL SESSIONS ARE OPEN TO ALL OCCUPANTS. You may attend any scheduled session; you are not restricted to the session scheduled on your floor.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact EOHSS at 2-4812.

Thank you!

Marta Figueroa
Assistant Director, Newark and Scotch Plains Campuses
