Learning Style
Each student has a learning style and recognizing the qualities of that style can compliment or even improve that student's academic success. The five types of learning styles are: Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Global and Sequential. Take the time to learn about each learning style and find out which one describes the way you learn.
Food For ThoughtJust as you have discovered that you have a learning style, it is important to keep in mind that instructors have a variety of teaching styles. The two basic types are independent and interactive.
The instructor that demonstrates an independent style is usually formal with students and expects the students to assume responsibility for learning, working independently, and asking for help when they need it. The instructor whose style is interactive is usually more informal and places more importance on group effort. The interactive instructor will guide the student step by step through tasks and anticipate their need for help.
Your challenge is to focus on how you can use your learning style to get the best out of your instructor's teaching style. Words like flexibility, adaptation, and innovation need to become constant in your vocabulary to achieve academic success.
