Student Health Insurance

University policy requires that all full-time University students and, also, all part-time University students who participate in clinical experiences maintain health and accident insurance.

To facilitate compliance with this requirement, the University has developed a Student Health Insurance Plan which is available to all University students and their dependents as an insurance option.  The Plan, underwritten by Aetna Insurance, provides coverage for illnesses and injuries subject to the master insurance policy terms and provisions.

Students who maintain comparable insurance coverage can waive coverage under the Plan underwritten by Aetna by completing and submitting a waiver form prior to the published deadline for the academic term.  All full-time University students and, also, all part-time University students participating in clinical experiences who do not waive coverage under the Student Health Insurance Plan, underwritten by Aetna, will be automatically enrolled in the Plan.  Enrollees will be billed for the resulting insurance premium in conjunction with their tuition.

Students who are not yet 26 years of age and who remain eligible as dependents under their parents’ health insurance coverage, pursuant to the recently promulgated provisions associated with the national health care reform law, may wish to explore that alternative insurance option.

A Description of Benefits, Premium Cost and the Waiver form applicable to the Student Health Insurance Plan underwritten by Aetna is available on the internet at: www.universityhealthplans.com
