The University provides for both All Risk Property insurance coverage of UMDNJ owned property and, also, Crime insurance coverage protecting against loss of its financial assets and property due to certain types of theft, dishonesty or robbery.

The University employs a combination of commercial insurance and self-insurance to fund losses which may occur.

The UMDNJ cost center sustaining damage or loss is responsible for the initial five thousand dollars of any such loss.

How to Report a Claim

  • Call risk management immediately upon discovering a loss; 973-972-6617 or 6145
  • Complete and submit a University incident report (see risk management policy section of this site)
  • Prepare and provide risk management with any relevant UMDNJ Public Safety reports and, also, with documentation (invoices, purchase orders, etc.) which might serve to establish the dollar value of damages
  • Risk management will coordinate all aspects of coordinating the claim with its commercial insurance carriers and, also, will advise the University cost center as to the resolution of any claim

Personal Property

The University is not responsible for loss or damage of any personal property of its employees, students, visitors or agents.  UMDNJ employees, students, visitors or agents are responsible for insuring their own property.
