APS

Clinical Loss Prevention eLearning Program

The University is pleased to announce its association with Advanced Practice Strategies (APS) and the introduction of the APS Patient Safety and Clinical Loss Prevention web based learning program.  The program initiative has three principal goals:

  • To enhance patient safety.
  • To minimize errors and adverse outcomes.
  • To reduce the frequency and severity of medical malpractice claims and litigation.

Principal characteristics of the APS program include:

  • Use of a clinically focused approach, presenting the participant with clinical cases to assess and manage in a non-punitive learning environment,
  • Focus upon a systems approach aimed at improving clinical practice and patient safety
  • Incorporation of risk management fundamentals (documentation, communication, informed consent, etc.) into clinical scenarios that encourages the participant in developing judgments and decision making.
  • CME credits are provided for faculty.

The successful completion of the course curriculum pathway is mandatory for all UMDNJ employed clinical faculty, residents and fellows over the course of a three year period.  Completion of one-third of your respective course curriculum each year, beginning with July 1, 2010, is required.
