Other Avenues of Support for Research
and Start-Ups
University Science Center’s QED Program - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
OTTBD has established a relationship with The University Science Center’s QED Program (whose name is derived from the Latin “Quod Erat Demonstrandum” – “that which is demonstrated”) which provides funding and business development support for academic researchers developing early-stage technologies with high commercial potential. The key goal of the program is to retire the business risk in these early-stage projects, increasing their attractiveness to follow-on investment by established companies and private investors. The QED Program integrates four elements that are critical to successfully and efficiently performing early-stage proof-of-concept technology assessments: business advice, market drivers, grant funding, and guidance to exit.
Foundation Venture Capital, UMDNJ – New Brunswick, NJ
The Foundation Venture Capital Group, LLC directly invests in the development of new start-up companies that most likely would not have been formed without outside support, it will bring much needed support to these companies to fund emerging medical breakthroughs in research and technology. This concept can prove to be transformational for the researchers at UMDNJ who are involved in these innovative projects and for patients who will be able to take advantage of the new products and technologies that will result from this effort. http://www.foundationofumdnj.org/
OTTBD Translational Research Fund
OTTBD occasionally has funds available for translational research. These funds are intended to help move a technology from the development phase to a phase that is more attractive from a licensing perspective. In order to be eligible to receive OTTBD Translational Research funding, a PI must have an Invention Disclosure Form on file with our office. Once we have reviewed the Invention Disclosure Form, the OTTBD will discuss internally and reach out to perspective inventors with technologies that we feel would benefit from this program.
