Mock Oral—Interns are required to complete a thoughtful and thorough write-up of a case they have treated which elaborates their theoretical approach to treatment, their rationale for interventions, therapy outcome and ethical issues raised by the case.  Two independent psychologists meet with the intern and ask any and all questions that may illustrate or identify clinical competence or deficiency (e.g. knowledge of DSM-IV-TV-R diagnostic criteria, evidence supporting or refuting a particular intervention, ethical guidelines, etc.)  Following this “mock oral,” examiners evaluate the interns’ performance and provide constructive feedback to the intern.  This process not only provides a thoughtful evaluation of competency and detailed feedback but serves as a rehearsal for NJ’s Oral Examination, which is required for licensure as a Psychologist in NJ.
