18-th Annual Renfrew Center Foundation Conference for Professionals
"Feminist Perspectives and Beyond - The Power of Therapeutic Relationships in the Treatment of Eating Disorders" (Please consult the meeting's Web pages.) November 13-16, 2008 Philadelphia, PA Event sponsored by: Renfrew Center Foundation Clinical experience and empirical research indicate the crucial importance of the treatment relationship during the course of psychotherapy. Evidence increasingly suggests that the quality of the therapeutic alliance is the single most important factor in a favorable treatment outcome. In order to further theoretical understanding and effective practices in the amelioration of eating disorders, this Conference is devoted to an examination of therapeutic relationships. Presentations are broad-based, to illuminate and explore the whole range of interpersonal qualities and connections that contribute to recovery. Prominent themes include therapist and patient characteristics that enhance the treatment relationship, types of interventions that promote the therapeutic alliance, factors which undermine therapeutic connection and ways to enable the therapeutic impact of the patient’s relationship with family and friends. About: | Research Institute on Addictions [RIA] in Buffalo, New York, is a national leader in alcohol and substance abuse prevention, treatment, and policy research. A component of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, RIA is a member agency of the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene and is affiliated with the University at Buffalo.
Founded in 1970, RIA scientists study alcoholism, substance abuse, and related issues such as crime and violence.
