Alateen, a part of Al-Anon Family Groups, helps teenage sons and daughters of alcoholics to cope with problems in their homes. These groups provide direct services to individuals by giving comfort, hope, and friendship to the family and friends of alcoholics, by providing information on alcoholism and sharing experience in coping with the disease, and by providing the opportunity to learn to grow spiritually.

Al-Anon publishes booklets and pamphlets, produces public service announcements for radio and television, cooperates with alcoholism treatment programs in supporting patients' families and friends and provides the public and professionals with information about their services.
