New Sr. VP for Advancement & Communications
William F. Owen, Jr., MD
President, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey
During my tenure at UMDNJ, I routinely appreciate the wonderful stories that happen here every day. By our various jobs, we live and contribute to wonderful stories of caring and compassion, learning and discovery, dedication and commitment. This is a great aspect of the life of an academic health center. Towards accelerating our success, we want to increasingly share the good things that happen at UMDNJ.
For this, we sought an energetic person with exceptional communication skills and bold ideas to help us tell our stories. That’s why I am excited to announce today that Diane Weathers has accepted the position of Senior Vice President for University Advancement and Communications, effective October 6.
Ms. Weathers has extensive experience in the fields of communications, publishing and media relations. She is the former editor in chief of Essence Magazine, which has a circulation of approximately 1.1 million, was an associate editor at Consumer Reports and Black Enterprise Magazine and a writer and Washington-bureau correspondent for Newsweek magazine. Diane has substantial international experience having served as Public Information Officer for the United Nations World Food Program. She is published in Readers Digest, Redbook, Ebony and has appeared on Oprah.
As Senior Vice President, she will direct and implement programs that cover all aspects of UMDNJ’s internal and external communications, including: advertising, publications, media relations, marketing and branding. Please join me in congratulating Ms. Weathers and in welcoming her to UMDNJ.
