National Veterans Awareness
Week
William F. Owen, Jr., MD
President, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey
The week of November 11 to November 17, 2007 has
been designated National Veterans Awareness Week
by the United States Senate.
Our University values service in the very broadest
sense of the word as the cornerstone of our mission. Therefore,
it is especially appropriate that we acknowledge
at this time the more than 100 members of our University
community who have served our country in the armed
forces. We also recognize the untold personal
sacrifices made by the families of these brave souls,
who are left to carry on in the face of often overwhelming
emotional and financial pressures.
We are proud of our institution’s long-standing
affiliations with the Veterans Affairs New Jersey
Healthcare System and our partnerships in providing
excellent care to our service men and women across
this state. The contributions and sacrifices
of those who served in the Armed Forces have been
vital in maintaining the freedoms and way of life
we enjoy.
Let’s take this opportunity to thank those
among us who are veterans and for whom this week
of recognition has special meaning.
Gratefully,

William F. Owen, Jr., M.D.
President
