President Owen’s Message on EMS
William F. Owen, Jr., MD
President, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey
For the past several days, the leadership of the University has been actively addressing the deeply disturbing acts of a few members of the UMDNJ-University Hospital Emergency Medical Services Department. As a result of the fast actions of the EMS management and our investigations unit, the University has terminated the employment of three individuals. As the details over this incident are clarified, I know you will agree that these actions have no place in our society and do not reflect the values of our University community.
UMDNJ has never and will never tolerate attitudes and behaviors that discriminate against any individual or group. The actions taken by the individuals in this instance are appalling. Nonetheless, the investigation is still ongoing.
The institution has an aggressive zero-tolerance philosophy for wrongdoing and is committed to fostering an environment that protects and supports all of its workforce.

William F. Owen, Jr., M.D.
