ADA Amendments Act of 2008 - Effective January 1, 2009

The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 ("ADA Amendments Act" or "Act") signed into law by President Bush in September 2008, took effect January 1, 2009.

This law broadens the definition of disabilities under the ADA.  This change will expand the number of individuals covered by the ADA and those for which employers will be required to make accommodations.

The impact for employers in New Jersey may not be as significant in that under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination the term ‘disability’ is very broadly defined.
