UNIVERSITY POLICY

I.        PURPOSE

To protect the interest of the University while providing assistance to news media covering UMDNJ activities.

II.       ACCOUNTABILITY 

Under the direction of the Vice President for Government and Public Affairs, the Senior Manager of University News Service shall ensure compliance with and implement this policy.

III.      POLICY

A.         Reporters and photographers are welcome to visit UMDNJ facilities, provided they abide by ethical, safety and other considerations, some of which are outlined below.

B.         Photographers or reporters may not engage in news gathering or photographic activities in any University facility without authorization from the Vice President for Government and Public Affairs or designee.  Emergency clearance may be obtained from the Senior Manager of University News Service.

C.         The privacy, safety and welfare of hospital patients is paramount.  To protect patients and to insure against unnecessary interruption of hospital procedure or classroom activity, invited visits by photographers and reporters to University Hospital must be arranged through the Hospital Office of Media Relations.
