POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN BIOCHEMISTRY OF RIBOSOMAL TRANSLATION

Dept: Microbiology and Molecular Genetics
Function: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Wlodek Mandecki Ph.D., the candidate will study interactions of ribosomal components in a project aimed at acquiring nucleotide sequence data from the translating single ribosome using fluorescence approaches (the NIH's $1000 Genome Initiative).
Qualifications:
A recent Ph.D. in Biochemistry, and experience in all of the following areas:
- Protein and nucleic acid expression and purification. Expression in bacterial systems, and chromatographic separation using FPLC and HPLC.
- Protein biosynthesis and in vitro translation. Experience with tRNAs biochemistry. Protein structure and function.
- Fluorescence methods. Conjugation of fluorescent dyes to proteins and nucleic acids. Characterization of fluorescent reagents by fluorescence spectroscopy.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to publish scientific research papers/articles and reports. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
