POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN BIOCHEMISTRY OF RIBOSOMAL TRANSLATION

New Jersey Medical School
Dept: Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

Function: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Wlodek Mandecki Ph.D., the candidate will study interactions of ribosomal components in a project aimed at acquiring nucleotide sequence data from the translating single ribosome using fluorescence approaches (the NIH's $1000 Genome Initiative). 

Qualifications:

A recent Ph.D. in Biochemistry, and experience in all of the following areas:

  1. Protein and nucleic acid expression and purification.  Expression in bacterial systems, and chromatographic separation using FPLC and HPLC. 
  2. Protein biosynthesis and in vitro translation.  Experience with tRNAs biochemistry.  Protein structure and function. 
  3. Fluorescence methods.  Conjugation of fluorescent dyes to proteins and nucleic acids.  Characterization of fluorescent reagents by fluorescence spectroscopy. 
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills.  Ability to publish scientific research papers/articles and reports.  Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
