2012 Training Calendar

This seminar will explore the health factors that coexist with tuberculosis among homeless persons, as well as successful strategies for the prevention and control of tuberculosis among homeless persons in the US. In particular, it will elucidate the partnership between health departments and agencies that serve the homeless to improve the coordination of clinical care and contact investigation outcomes. The format will include an overview of the situation, the perspective of shelter staff, and a case study of collaboration between a local health department, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and homeless services providers. The Regional Training and Medical Consultation Centers (RTMCCs) are partnering with the National Society of TB Clinicians (NSTC) and the Union North America Region (NAR) to offer a pre-workshop at the 2012 International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease – North America Region (IUATLD-NAR) conference being held in San Antonio, TX on February 22, 2012. The pre-workshop, titled "Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Tuberculosis", will enhance the expertise of providers in the diagnosis and treatment of their patients with, or at risk of, tuberculosis. This web-based seminar will cover the diagnosis and treatment of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. Case presentations will explore clinical manifestations, diagnostic evaluation, typical complications, and principles of managing extra-pulmonary TB disease. Full Brochure

The purpose of this half-day course is to provide TB program leaders, clinicians, and field workers with updated information that they can apply in their daily work for the prevention and control of TB. Topics will include current trends in Philadelphia, new diagnostics and treatment regimens, policies and protocols for pediatric TB, working with foreign-born patients, contact investigations, and program coordination and service integration (PCSI). In commemoration of World TB Day, this conference will address TB prevention and control efforts in New York City to highlight progress in the fight against TB. Topics will include a review of the local epidemiology, taking steps to address TB among the foreign born, new treatment options for latent TB infection, laboratory testing for TB, working with prison populations, and managing TB and co-morbidities. This course is for trainers identified by the Indiana TB Program and Lung Association who teach tuberculin skin testing instructors. It is part of a 2-day conference on tuberculin skin test instruction in the State of Indiana and is by invitation. Lecture and skills-based topics include: the basics of training, logistics of training, providing feedback, and evaluation methods. This two day workshop is for health department staff and supervisors/managers who are funded to work full or part-time in a state or local TB program. Through lectures and exercises, it will cover TB control topics of epidemiology and surveillance, application of diagnostic methods, contact investigation, cultural competency, and program evaluation.
