Course Description
This intensive two-day skills-building workshop covers the principles of adult education, teaching strategies, and planning and conducting a TST training. The course includes some lecture sessions; however, the format is highly interactive with an emphasis on role-plays, group exercises, and practice teaching of course content and TST demonstration. Participant will receive feedback from experienced trainers as they practice these skills.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for licensed health professionals (i.e., nurses, nurse practitioners or physician assistants) who are responsible for training others in tuberculin skin testing.

Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe and apply the principles of adult learning to teaching the skill of tuberculin skin testing
  • Demonstrate instructional skills during a trainer-learner simulation, i.e., presenting information in lecture format, demonstrating a technical skill, and giving feedback to the learner
  • Discuss the logistics of planning a TST training
  • Select and utilize appropriate training resources
  • Describe how evaluations can be used for program improvement

Course Requirements
Participants must be proficient in the technique of administering and reading the Mantoux tuberculin skin test and be recommended by their department head.

Lodging is available at the Hampton Inn & Suites – Newark Riverwalk – in Harrison, NJ. The room rate is $129.00 + 15% tax. Please call 973-483-1900 to make a reservation and mention TST. Rooms are available on a first come, first served basis so pleased reserve a room ASAP. Complimentary bus transportation will be provided between the hotel and the conference site. The Hampton Inn has free airport shuttle service to and from Newark Liberty International Airport. When boarding the shuttle, make sure to specify that the Hampton Inn – Newark Riverwalk is your destination.

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by NJSNA, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Provider Number P173-10/06-09
