Course Description
Current TB surveillance data indicates that the many TB patients include foreign born, homeless, substance abusers, refugees, migrants, and HIV-infected persons. Peer-reviewed literature has indicated that the inclusion of social support services in the care of these patients enhances treatment adherence and outcomes. This web-based seminar will cover resources that can be utilized to assist at-risk TB patients. Case presentations will be included.

Target Audience
TB control staff who work with patients who require enhanced supportive social services.

Objectives

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify populations with TB who would benefit from enhanced social support services
  • List resources for social support within the public health and non-public health sectors
  • Apply innovative techniques for enhancing support
  • Discuss examples of social support strategies used in homeless and refugee populations

Course Requirements
Participants must have Internet access (high-speed preferred), a speaker phone, and an email address to receive course information. If multiple persons wish to participate at one site, there is no limit to the number of participants. However, sites must identify a contact person to receive conference information and collect and submit completed evaluation forms and sign-in sheet.
