This workshop is designed for physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals who are involved in the diagnosis and management of TB patients. Individuals who work in the following settings would benefit from attending this workshop:

• Long Term Care Facilities
• Immigrant & Refugee Health
• Community Health Settings
• College or University Health Services

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Interpret epidemiology trends of TB to better screen and treat groups that are at high risk for TB
• Apply current advances for assessing risk, testing and treating latent TB infection to prevent development of disease
• Apply recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of TB disease to prevent transmission and primary drug resistance
• Describe approaches for managing adverse drug effects to anti-TB medications to minimize toxicity and ensure completion of therapy
• Discuss the principles for managing patients with drug resistant TB disease to achieve successful outcomes
• Utilize current recommendations for the prevention and management of TB in children and adolescents
• Develop individualized approaches to promote adherence in patients taking TB medications
• Coordinate care for TB and HIV-infection to provide accurate diagnosis, integrate treatment and effectively manage co-infected patients
• Implement appropriate infection control measures along the continuum of care to prevent transmission and future cases of TB
• Describe strategies for providing TB care that is patient-centered and culturally sensitive

This course will build upon the basic concepts outlined in the CDC’s Core Curriculum on Tuberculosis: What the Clinician Should Know (Available at: http://www.cdc.gov/tb/education/corecurr/default.htm). Therefore, it is recommended that participants review this self study guide prior to the course to increase baseline knowledge of TB. In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are required to attend the entire course, and complete an evaluation form.  A post-course follow up evaluation will be sent within 2 months of the course.
