| This seminar will present the entire picture of a cohort review from start to finish. The format features a simulated cohort review session including case presentations, feedback and comments by a program director and medical reviewer, analysis and summary of outcomes by an epidemiologist, and plans for each person to follow up on the findings. Presenters are experienced practitioners from programs in Columbus OH, Philadelphia PA, Washington DC, and Washington State. |
| This web-based seminar is designed for teams of TB controllers, program managers, physicians and nurses, and epidemiologists or data analysts — as well as front line case managers. It is the third and last in a series of web-based seminars on the cohort review process. |
| The Cohort Review Process has long been a “best practice” used by outstanding TB control programs in the US and internationally. Originally designed by Dr. Karel Styblo to systematically analyze treatment outcomes of every documented TB case in a program area, this useful management approach serves several purposes: staff motivation, quality improvement, training needs assessment, and program evaluation. Cooperative agreements with CDC require that programs begin implementing cohort reviews in 2010. This course will provide information and strategies for programs to do so. |

Upon completion of this activity participants will be able to:
- Describe the flow of activities in a cohort review session
- Analyze the comments and feedback from the program manager and medical reviewer
- Examine clinical and programmatic teaching points that are used to highlight lessons learned in the cohort review
- Identify issues that need follow-up by different staff
- Identify benefits of the cohort review process and program improvements that may result

1:00 pm Introduction to a simulated cohort review – Bill Bower, MPH
1:15 pm Simulated cohort review: several cases presented by disease intervention specialist and public health nurse to program manager, medical reviewer, and epidemiologist
1:45 pm Epidemiologist prepares summary outcomes while program leaders discuss strengths/weaknesses/follow-up with staff
2:00 pm Summary of outcomes
2:30 pm Conclusion and wrap-up
