The
Cerebrovascular Center of the Department of Neurological
Surgery at New Jersey Medical School is directed by
Dr. David Hunt.
The
Department, in multi-disciplinary cooperation with Neuroradiology,
the Section of Vascular Neurology and the Section of
Vascular Surgery is interested in the evaluation and
treatment, both operative and non-operative, of patients
with diseases of the blood vessels supplying the brain
and spinal cord.
Particular
interest include the management of ruptured and unruptured
intracranial aneuryms, arteriovenous malformations of
the brain and spinal cord, and extracranial cerebral
vascular disease. Both intracranial and extracranial
revascularization procedures are performed. Non-invasive
evaluations through the Department of Neuroradiology
by advanced imaging techniques, and non-invasive Doppler
imaging by the Department of Neurology the vascular
laboratory are supported. Interventional neuroradiologic
procedures are available by special arrangement.

The
neurosurgical intensive care unit of University Hospital
at New Jersey Medical School takes special pride in
this expertise in the perioperative management of
patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Research
interests within the section include perioperative
management of cerebral vasospasm associated with subarachnoid
hemorrhage; evaluation and classification of abnormalities
of coagulation and viscosity associated with cerebrovascular
disorder; and instrumentation and techniques specifically
designed for use in the management of cerebrovascular
disorder
